Description

The Rapier NCK HC170 Olympus crawler crane is a heavy-duty lifting machine built to rigorous industrial standards. Its tapered head boom system reaches a maximum length of 81 metres (266 feet) and delivers a rated capacity of 90 tonnes (198,450 lb) at full extension. The crane operates in accordance with BS1757—1981, ISO 4305—1981, and BS2573 Part 1:1977, with all rated loads limited to no more than 75% of calculated tipping loads. Loads must be freely suspended on firm, level ground, and the weights of hook blocks, slings, and all suspended tackle must be deducted from gross figures to determine true net working loads. The boom configuration accommodates three fly jib options—a 9 metre, 16.5 metre, and 24 metre fly jib—each maintaining a fixed 4.57 metre offset from the main boom centre line regardless of length. Maximum fly jib gross loads decrease with boom length: 15,000 kg for the 9 metre configuration, 10,000 kg for the 16.5 metre, and 5,000 kg for the 24 metre. Hoist rope specifications include a 32 mm front drum arrangement capable of lifting up to 90,000 kg across six parts of rope, with the rear drum accepting 30 mm rope for alternative duty configurations. For drop hammer piling or dynamic compaction applications, the machine requires the installation of cyclic duty counterweights as specified in the duty charts. Users are referred to British Standards Code of Practice CP 3010 (1972) for guidance on safe application and operation, with particular attention to factors including wind effects, ground conditions, and operating speeds that may influence safe working parameters. The crane is equipped with comprehensive radius and height diagrams covering operational envelopes up to 64 metres radius and 100 metres above ground level.
